DIY Scented Glitter Crackers for the table…

So pretty, personal & can keep Christmas present spending under control if this is your main gift but means so much to the people who receive it.

I have a huge family with lots of brothers & sisters so when I don’t get to see them all as much as I would like, Christmas is really special and this is a   perfect way to make something really personal & spend some time on the people you care about.

This is something we used to do when I was young with my mum on Christmas Eve. I Loved it!

So, I wanted to give you my quick step guide to making something special for Christmas day. Crackers can be used throughout the year for making your table & home look pretty – Birthdays, Dinner parties, Valentines Day, Wedding favours/Bomboniere’s !

I think its such a beautiful way to present a small gift…

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

STEP 1: CUT THE PAPER

First cut a piece of  good quality wrapping paper about 30cm x 20cm (give it a few more cm’s just incase the rolls are different sizes)

STEP 2: STICKY TAPE

Then, using the double sided sticky tape, Stick 3 pieces at the top of the paper and one at the bottom in the centre.

STEP 3: CRACKER SNAP

Place one loo roll just above the bottom sticky tape.Thread a cracker snap through the loo roll and tape both ends (of the cracker snap) to the paper.

 STEP 4: ROLL UP
Now place an extra x2 loo rolls next to the centre roll. So you should have 3 in a line.
Peel off the backs of your sticky tape and carefully roll the paper all the way to the end making sure the 2 end rolls do not stick to the paper as these will be removed later on.

So it should look something like this…

STEP 5: PRETTY BOWS

Find the gap between the centre loo roll and one of the end rolls. Gently push in with your fingers to make a ridge all the way round the cracker being careful not to rip the paper. Take a good strong piece of string or ribbon, wrap around the cracker end and tie up tightly.

Then follow by tying on your decorative ribbon in a pretty bow. Do this to just one end as you will need to leave the other end open until all the bits have been made. Then finally slide out the loo roll from that end.

STEP 6 : THE SURPRISE

Decorate the party hats however you like, metallic pens are great on tissue paper –  if you like playing the Rizla game, write old movie star names on the hats 🙂

Then using your A4 card, cut up x5 individual pieces for your Jokes. Write on your Jokes, turn over and paint on some glue then cover with glitter.

Leave to dry while you make the rest. Write all your name labels and thread ribbon through the label hole.

STEP 7: GLAM IT UP

To make your crackers look super luxe. Using your A4 card, make some glitter stencils.

Wrap the stencil around the centre part of the cracker making sure its really tight. Then paint on the glue and follow with a thick layer of glitter, I do this on a magazine to catch all the excess glitter. You can mix the glitter colours together for different effects.  Gently peel off the stencil and brush off any glitter that isn’t where it should be. Leave to dry for a few hours.

STEP 8: PACK IT

Ok so now you need your gifts ready to put inside the crackers. This can be anything from your main gift to sweets as long as it fits..

For my sisters I have used their fave nail varnish, lipsticks & some Gossard SWEETCHEEKS…. for the guys, a novelty memory stick filled with a load of the newest music/albums & movies from iTunes so they can upload straight to their iPod/iPad and a mini Ipod shuffle for our nephew (You can pick up a memory stick on Amazon for around £3 – £8…)

Pack all your bits into the cracker pushing it down as far as you can.

BITS YOU NEED IN THE CRACKER:

♡Gift

♡ Hat

♡Joke

♡ Chocolate/Sweets

♡Rose petals/Lavender or Table confetti

FINAL STEP: CLOSE THE END

Finally, as you did in Step 5. Find the gap between the loo rolls and crease with your fingers ensuring the loo roll doesn’t fall out. Tie with ribbon as tight as you can so the contents of the cracker doesn’t fall out. Once this is tied up slide out the end loo roll then put on your name labels and finish by tying your decorative ribbon round each end in pretty bows.
