Oh Oscar! Bridal Trends SS14 by Victoria
Maybe you are a bride to be, or maybe you just dream of your big day (some! day!) or maybe, just like me, you still like a good wedding fix even though your big day has long since passed. Either way you are welcome here while we talk you through the wedding dress trends for Spring Summer 2014 as showcased at the Bridal Market Catwalk in New York.
Thanks to Kate Middleton the must have dress type is no longer strapless, instead, it’s all in the sleeves. Sleeves, particularly in Chantilly lace, are big news, the longer the better.
If the front is modest and the arms are covered up then designers need another area to flaunt and next season it’s all about the back. Think cut out tear drop shapes, key hole circles, deep plunging V-shapes and crisscross spaghetti straps.
It’s A Wrap
Forget a veil, next season the must have statement comes in a shoulder wrap. Oscar de la Renta showcased cocoons of tulle and paired it nicely with barely there statement gloves. Other designers added organza flowers and feathers, which are certain to be a big design statement for SS14.
Did Keira Knightly kick start a trend for tea length which she married in a short tulle Chanel dress? Either way designers including Jenny Lee and Marchesa seem inspired by the shorter length (and even the daring wedding mini) and it’s a great excuse to invest in designer shoes!
Each season there is a variation on the colour white but it’s the first time we hear that the new white of the season is indeed PINK. Some designers interpreted that trend as a stain or as a blush but Vera Wang went all out and proud bridesmaid pink, only in a wedding dress.
Let us know if you are planning, aspiring or just being nostalgic and which of these trends is your favourite!
